That’s why I can’t for the life of me think it’s madness. We need to do things differently here due to the financial limitations. We haven’t got the funds to have high profile loans as we did under Cooper, we need to find other ways to compete with clubs who are bigger than us, have huge resources compared to us, I can’t think of anyone better than Russell.

I don’t think he’s perfect, far from it, but he’s young, making his way in management and trying to build for the long term here. That’s not me being naive enough to think he won’t jump if he’s offered big cash elsewhere but the spine of the squad he’s building will be left for someone else to carry on.
