Maybe the formation and tactics were wrong too? Just a thought.
 
More effort from the supporters than the players on the pitch.

I'm not actually sure anymore whether we have players not good enough for this level or being badly managed !

The fact he says about the body language says everything
 
For our players the season is over , for Sheffield its not , they are going for promotion , that would account for a difference in mentality
 
So is he saying he can't motivate them? Are the players saying we can't play like Man City so let us play the game we are good at?

No excuse... Pro footballers, if they feel like that then that is down to the manager to smash that out of them sharpish. What if all the fans took the same approach and stopped going to games?
 
Sounds to me like he is passing the buck.
He chose the team, he tels them where and how to play.
He decided to leave it until it is too late to make changes.
Ultimately responsibility lies with him.
Poor performance but poorly conducted by Martin
