is this cnt gonna refuse to play until the summer now?

He is our player so I believe he will now knuckle down and lead us to glorious mid table mediocrity

It's up to him now. He either knuckles down or rots

I'm not clever enough to understand the details of footballers contracts. But, in any other job if you refused to work you would be disciplined and sacked. Why does it seem this sanction is not available to football clubs?

For the sake of clarity,y point is a general one and I make no judgement on what may or may not be happening with Pato

It's not any other job, it's stands alone so therefore it cannot be judged along side other jobs. Name me another job where you get paid way way over the odds for having fun?

You do realise that was meant as a joke right ?
Not sure the Willy Wonka reference is called for ?

The thing is, it's probably more in his interests to knuckle down and play than it is in ours.

Worst case scenario for us, even if we can't fine him/dock wages, etc., we have a player we are playing a relatively small amount (in football terms) to do nothing every week for the next 18 months (which is hardly a novel idea for us). I am guessing we'll be saving money on win/goal bonuses and the like. We can make do this year and sign someone else in the summer. Hardly a big deal for us in the grand scheme of things.

Worst case scenario for him, Summer 2023, he'll be turning 32 soon, journeyman, injury prone, no football for 18 months with a reputation for being a trouble maker. If not many clubs were lining up to take him last summer, that queue will be almost non existent.

There's far more on the line for him than there is for us.

But I don't know of any other job where your boss can extend your contract against your will and also refuse to give you a pay rise.

And judging by this transfer window and how skint we are that's looking more and more likely that's the stunt the club have pulled.

You wouldn’t be disciplined and sacked if you claimed your mental health was an issue for work reasons even if it wasn’t.
