I went through Malaga about 6 months ago. To access the non Schengen area I had to go through Border control which was after the main security area and duty free/restaurant area.
There were around 12 positions for passport inspection, but less than half were open and there was a a queue. We got there early, we queued for around 15 minutes but the queue increased quite quickly. There were people on flights to Turkey and other non EU destinations in a flap as they’d left it late to get through border control and their gate closure times were fast approaching.

There’s a small choice of restaurants, cafes etc in the gates after border control, I’d aim to get the formalities sorted soon after arriving at the airport because it didn’t seem like the Border control staff were going to break sweat or be bothered if people missed their flights.

Anyone departed back to the UK through Málaga recently? Is it chaos? Heading home from Nerja via AGP on Thursday
Seville was ok on Friday night. All passport machines were operational and despite there being two UK flights leaving very close to each other, there was no queuing involved. Automated machine passport scan, no biometrics involved, passport stamped.

Will be in Bologna again on Tuesday night, for the third time this year. Let’s see if this means I bypass any of the potential steps.

Took the family to Nerja for a week in 2004. Nice calm place but I wasn't keen on the gritty sand. Did you check out the caves?

Do Malaga still have just one check in desk for cases for all Ryan Air flights?.. spent many times queuing .

We've been coming here with and without the kids for years, I'd say 20+. We really like the place and it does feel like home. We want to do a 4 week stint here one year. We've only ever been Feb/March/April or late October so it's never been a beach destination for us.

We've visited the caves several times - always a good option if it rains. We usually walk to and from Maro and always have our Frigiliana fixes - actually waiting for the bus there now as I type this. Walked back from Torrox this trip too.

We will certainly be back, but wondering how the airport will be!
