Twitter seems to suggest he’s signed a new long term contract

I don't think he's in a rush to go anywhere.
He's played week in week out the last 5 seasons.
Some players who earn good money regard playing above earning more.

Great news. Our most consistent player. First name on the team sheet for me.

5 years and still in the Championship.. can anyone see the obvious, every manager who's left hasn't taken him, the sirens and alarm bells should be ringing loudly.. but perennial failure Gareth Southgate has bigged him up.. so he must be mustard, most of our fans are chuffed though, seeing mediocrity week in week out

Not always a fan of how he played under RM, but good news

It’s good news if Duff uses him in a more positive and aggressive way. If he just hands him the armband and say ‘more of the same’ we may as well have stuck with Russel Martin. Grimes is a cracking player but if he’s going to play the pivot he must have licence to get his head up and get the ball to willing runners, something that the last two managers have tried to coach out of him, and the team in general.

Not a fan skip?

He's alright. Maybe he can reinvent himself as a proper box to box. I've always thought he lacks the self confidence to be as good as he might be, consistently. Never going to pull up any trees in his current incarnation. Needs to be off set pieces immediately, although his penalties were excellent when he was allowed to take those. Removal of the captaincy would help him, and us, I think - make the captain the best suited on the day, so no automatic selection for anyone - and we don't need him, Fulton, Allen in the same line up ever.

iirc, Grimes was much more effective under Potter when he a) wasn't captain and b) played further forward.

He didn't play further forward under Potter though. Once the left back experiment was over he played the same job he still does now, sitting in front of the defence knocking the ball side to side. Every attempt to move him further forward (Cooper tried it, as did Martin so Downes could drop so deep he was often behind our back three) has failed because Grimes is an excellent holding midfielder who doesn't have the instincts or skillset to play ambitious football in the final third.
