To say the officials *didn't see it* is absolute bullshit. The ref saw it, and bottled the decision.

The one that annoys me (as a microbiologist) is Gram staining. Americans use gram, but it’s a proper noun as Christian Gram developed the test.

I'm afraid that ship has sailed. In its other context, I abhor the eradication of the word 'attack' or 'attacking'. I stand by my view that despite being sometimes likeable - though less so since 2015 - yanks ruin everything they touch, from food to football.
