A lot will come down to whether they can do any team strengthening during the January window. There are two teams inside the play off spots who have lost more games this season than Derby and I reckon that Rooney uses this to motivate his squad. They may well get some benefit from points deductions elsewhere, Bristol City anyone?

All of a sudden they have momentum but doesnt hide that they still probably need 40+ points in the second half of the season - needs to be play off/promotion winning form from here on in
