Really shouldn't give 2 fcks, but seeing Russ squirm post match be a laugh to start the season off.

Their squad is ridiculous for this level.

It’s already like watching a different manager’s team to be fair. Pressing quickly, moving it forward, winger with pace getting picked. Like Cooper with Nottingham Forest, he seems to have binned his Swansea system pdq. There are some class players on the pitch mind. It’ll be interesting to see how it pans out. Before anyone gets on their holier than thou horse, yes he’s gone, so it’s of no consequence to us but I was interested in how Martinez, Sousa, Rodgers, Cooper and Potter did too.

Edit, oh they scoredwhile I was typing. Fist pumps ahoy.

Its hard to believe its a year ago I watched Burnley outplay Hudds on opening night last season. Some spooky similarities. Both home teams in Blue and white getting bummed by recently relegated sides after succesful previous seasons. Burnley walked the league. Soton to do the same?

Incredible squad at the moment.

Even without Lavia and Ward-Prowse they will walk this league if Russ gets it right.

It's unknown whether it's Wednesday being terrible or Soton excellent but they're league's apart ATM

Wednesday not pressing them at all, they are pressing Wednesday all over the place. Give these players that much time you’re going to get hurt. Don’t press their weaker spots in defence you’re going to be humped. Wednesday have to push up the pitch and stop cowering in their own half.

Now SW are playing Russball 🤣🤣. Have we stepped into a parallel universe?

And a Soton defender under pressure just hoofed it into touch. This is like the ultimate troll so far.

Someone's missed a trick with Bannen. He's wasted with this fckn shower.

Lot of possession not a huge amount of chances created...

It's really hard to tell of Southampton are that good or weds are that bad.
They still do that Russel Martin trend of standing in the middle of the pitch doing nothing with the ball at times. It's the standard of players rather than the system that's the difference here so far

One goal is never enough. Weds need to keep it to that until 8 mins into injury time and then win it.

Surely Weds will come out different second half. They are making themselves look like dicks with that formation and tactics against these. They should have kept the big man as manager that took them up. Fair play though, Russ will be loving it.

This.

First 10 mins it looked like they would be out of sight. Then the fannying around started and the Wednesday gk had not had a lot to do.

Longer it goes on with 1 goal we know what can happen; although I can’t see that this evening because Wednesday are not looking up to scratch. No pace, no outlets, nothing other than a pinball goal or a set piece.
