Travel to the good ol USA

For over 15 years when travelling to or through the US i have been subject of “secondary” checks by the authorities, i think i know why (I don’t have any convictions/arrests/political affiliations) as a result i have avoided travelling there for the last 5 or 6 years.

Was recently booking a S American holiday and with the current regime decided there is no way i am going through the states so i have paid a higher fare to avoid the US.

Do you think ordinary people are avoiding travelling to the states and if so will they ever recover or is it just paranoid old blokes like me?

There is data which backs up the theory of less people travelling to the US for vacation, hardly surprising given the strength of the Dollar and loon in charge of the country.

I’ve no idea what’s going on with S.American air fairs from the UK. My last few tickets to Brazil have been extortionate and next months is as well.

I know the Canadians have an obvious reason not to travel at the moment as some sort of small push back against the 51st state comments, but wondered if Brits were still looking to go on holidays there or putting things off for a while.

The Canadian “Snowbirds” travel in huge numbers during the winter normally but have apparently cancelled in large numbers.

I know the Canadians have an obvious reason not to travel at the moment as some sort of small push back against the 51st state comments, but wondered if Brits were still looking to go on holidays there or putting things off for a while.

There are a few on here who have commented that they intend to avoid the US, and speaking for ourselves we have shelved an idea to make a road trip up the coast from Boston.

We’ve been to the US about a dozen times over the last 30 years or so. Mainly road trips and visiting friends.
Not going there at the moment and for the foreseeable future. Going to the Canadian Maritimes next summer instead.

I know Vegas has suffered from lots of people from Canada cancelling their regular trips.

I live on the border mate and am dual citizen British/Canadian..
The mood in Canada is febrile - and it takes a lot for Canadians to get wound up!
* American booze banned from the shelves in Ontartio (Think California Wine and Tennessee Whiskey)
* Full scale campaigns to buy any american products on shelves
* Huge travel reduction. I actually work as a part time travel consultant and people are massively avoiding locations such as Vegas, NYC, LA, Disneyland/world, Florida etc. I am booking tons more Canadians to Mexico and Europe - and Alaskan,Caribbean cruises are literally begging Canadians to return with deep discounts.
* I live on the Windsor/Detroit border (I am looking at Detroit from my house) - and cross border traffic is generally down about 25%. I used to cross 2-3 times a month. Now I just go for the Sports or for a concert.

It is VERY sad - and aldso VERY profound - but while current US politics continue - their economy is going to get minced. Plus - it is not just Canadians - there is a worlwide movement that will be hard to get back.

I visited Vancouver last summer and had a great time, wonderful welcome and the airport was a breeze to get through. i will definitely be returning to Canada in the near future and good to see Canada fighting back against its bully of a neighbour even if it’s in a small way.

What’s your South America plan?

Been for work (New Hampshire) and pleasure (Orlando) in recent months. Orlando seemed much quieter to me (at least at Universal) than previous visits. Certainly the better exchange rate (1.35 v 1.20) compensated for higher prices. There were several no-shows at the conference I was at in NH (GRC Salmonella) due to visa and ESTA refusals including a former colleague at Liverpool who is white British.

A few years ago my wife phoned me to say she was getting a Brazilian.

When I got home Pelé was in the kitchen making himself a cup of tea.

It’s a big trip, been ill the last few years so once i was on the road to recovery decided to retire and travel as much as i can. I have worked flat out since i was 16 and always wanted to travel but put the family first. They are all grown up independent with their own families so me and the Mrs are making the most of our time.

Fly into Rio spend a few days there sightseeing then up to Iguaza falls, transfer to Argentina side there and view falls and park from that side, down to Buenes Aires for a few days, get on a cruise ship stopping at Patagonia, Uruguayan, Chile before onto Antarctic then off to Falklands for a few days sailing back to BA, fly to Lima transfer to Cusco acclimatise then travel to Machu Picchu before flying back from Lima via Madrid to LHR. Just about 5 weeks in total spending the kids inheritence.

Lots of footy opportunities in those locations mate (other than Antartic and top of the Andes Have a great trip!!
