• Thank you very much | Diolch yn fawr

All at JackArmy.net would like to thank everyone who has played a part on this site over the past 25 years whether that is through writing, contributing, moderating, posting or just visting and reading.

Without any of you the work that has gone into the site would have been pointless and we will always be proud that we built, generated and managed a community that was such a big part of the Swansea City supporting life for so long.

It has been a pleasure to bring to you the site for so long but the time is now right to turn the lights out for the last time but we do it both with a heavy heart and a sense of pride driven by the so many messages received since we announced the closure.

The site will remain here for a period until we archive and mothball it for the last time later this summer but all aspects are in a read only format.

Thank you though for all the memories

    Phil Sumbler
    Owner, jackarmy.net

I don't think Martin particularly liked Darling much? Wasn't a regular here under him. Plus wasn't there reports that Darling was a club signing and not a Martin pick???

Fisher I can see moving, especially with his Scottish football experience now.
Fisher is a good call. He was defo a Martin signing. As for Darling I was under the impression he was a Martin man. Maybe he wasn't, live and learn 👍

I'll never quite understand the level of hatred for Martin. Yes, we were boring to watch too often (though not always), but our average position under him was 12.5, in other words exactly mid table. When you consider he didn't have the benefit of parachute payments that was a reasonable return, and good enough for Southampton to pay compensation to secure his services. And Southampton were a lot more attacking under Martin than we were under him, as they demonstrated in their 5 nil demolition of us (with us managed by Sheehan).

I'm glad we've seen the back of the low tempo stuff Martin served up, but I bear him no animosity. Life's too short.

I bet you anything that when Michael Duff gets his next job there will be no reaction at all. Then again perhaps it's better to be hated than to be completely erased from memory.

On one hand I want to debate this but have a sneaky feeling many will have their say on this one. So all I'll say is, Martin was shocking at times under us, suicide football and had no plan b. He threw players and the club under the bus. Duff was just Duff.

Very one eyed. He showed he could adapt in that 7 wins and 2 draw streak at the end of the second season. Plus in the double double we didn't just beat Cardiff, we took them to the cleaners.

Of course, there was a lot of turgid, boring stuff as well. But if I had to pick between Martin and Duff, I wouldn't hesitate in saying Martin was the least bad. Hardly a ringing endorsement, but Duff's tenure certainly put Martin's into a bit of perspective.

Did I just see Martin’s “style” described as “fast forward”?

I need to reevaluate my concept of speed.

Can't and won't take away the double, double, but it was suicide football. Players was to scared to kick the ball away, instead they would be trying to make it look pretty from the back. Southampton anyone? We got found out very fast. Teams knew to press and we was leaking left right and centre.

He showed he could adapt when the pressure to get a result became too much so he had to change to get a few wins. Once that was done he would immediately revert to his usual uber tedious game plan (such as it was) amd we’d be straight back to nonsense again. The bloke is an utter charlatan with a massive ego and a following that can only be described in the same terms as you’d use for Jonestown

Fuk sake get yourself off FotMob for half hour and go for some fresh air!

Here’s a contrary opinion, even though I’d love to see him play Gnome football up there as he’d be ridiculed. They will have the second best team in the league and the rest are parks standard. Soton went forward a lot quicker in the chumpionshit as they some of the best players. Should have been 7 up at half time against us at the Lib. It’s when he hasn’t got superior players in the league he does his turgid self indulgent crap and gets found out.

They’ll batter most of the teams they’ll play, whatever he does, so it’ll come down to the Celtic games and he’s good at derbies.

It may not be that clear cut that he’ll fail miserably. A mediocre manager in a shite league can look good.

I see that being said about Martin a lot, but I can't say I've seen that at all. Perhaps it's like that on X, but on the forums the views of him are almost universally negative, with a few, such as myself, offering a somewhat half hearted defence.

Again no mention of Duff. If we were shit a lot of the time under Martin, we were even shittier under Duff. I can't help but think that his dour, northern working class persona is the reason he gets a free ride. Harder to hate than Martin's persona (although ironically Martin had a very tough working class upbringing).

You would swear the bloke is the next messiah. It was sickening to see at end of the Southampton game against us early last year our fans applauding him and fist bumps. I must of looked like a nut job standing and watching on as I just couldn't understand it. I think he has a direct link to devil and has sold his soul 😂😂. Either that or he is a wizard 😂. The man could and can convince anyone that he is the next best thing.

You don't have to go on Fotmob to work out that two seasons in 15th and 10th places averages out at 12.5, exactly mid table.
