This is mental and nicely demonstrates the problem with mandatory, blanket sentencing. I’m all for the wider use of community sentencing and keeping people out of prison where it’s safe to do so but there have to be exceptions for serious crimes like rape.

Would it not be better in certain cases to allow the judge to use his/her/ their discretion. They're not daft, far from it. Just a thought.
