I remember NME / Sounds giving away promo and really bad plastic discs on their publications .

Got home put them on the then , stereo system with the stylus needle system , some were good too .

Got into ELP and Pictures at an Exhibition via that freebie , my intro into a new music genre , loved it .

Always though Melody Maker was aimed at the more serious readers and music followers .
