Absolutely imho

I think so, also, don't think we would have conceded those two goals as early as we did if he had been there, I think he's been playing well for the last 6/8 games or more.

What's more concerning is our defence it was shocking first half hr, they tell me RM was a decent defender, well it seems he's not got the ability to pass on the basics to his players, then again the players should have those basic skills to be fecking defenders in first place ffs.

Problem is we didn't try to replace him.

We were basically playing 3-0-7 in the first half. If we play that formation everytime he's out then yeah, we are in trouble.

In what way did we miss him?

Missed in the control of the centre of midfield.

He seems to have control of the centre circle when he plays, he's not exceptional by any means except for being neat and tidy, we didn't have that in that area today, at any time, from what I saw and I was flicking back and forth to the rugby.

Grimes absence today, did show how poor the basic passing from our centre halves was. Normally grimes drops deep and picks the ball up from them to start the offence. Today both cabango and wood didn’t have that option. Even a simple ten yard pass was beyond them.

Not even a little bit. 77% possession and 90.7% completed passes. Fulton stepped up and did basically everything Grimes would have done as some people have been saying for about three seasons. Grimes is utterly replaceable.

Our problems lay in Cooper somehow being deployed in deep midfield and then on the wing, Cundle being essentially useless and Martin somehow having a problem with Oko-Flex being aggressive and attacking.

Fair play, an admirable attempt, but I don't think you quite believe that either.

Today was absolutely shapeless. At best, you could argue Martin tried to be too clever to over compensate for Grimes' absence. Either way, we looked like a school team with players just running around without much idea what they were trying to do.

We're lucky we played the worst team in the league and luckier they had a two goal lead handed to them. Those stats are pretty meaningless without that context.

Thanks for eloquently explaining what I was haphazardly trying to explain earlier on in the thread,

I agree with this.

I thought we missed Grimes today.

No more shapeless than we were against Preston, or Luton, or Burnley, or any number of other games where we've been mostly shite. First half performances in general have largely been rubbish, and Grimesey has been front and centre in almost all of them.

It's truly staggering how many people are pretending that the entire performance today was any different to plenty of others just because Grimes was missing.
