Sad to see that it’s being demolished to make way for a uni campus. Saw a lot of great gigs in that place.

My brother was a huge fan of The Monkees and one day he came home with a couple of tickets for their concert in Newport. I wasn’t keen on going, but for some reason I ended up going to keep him company.
I thought the place would be half empty, but to my surprise it was packed. The second surprise I had was the band themselves, my expectations weren’t great, but they were simply outstanding, very slick and professional.

I saw a concert from about 15 years ago and Peter Tork played and sung an impromptu version of "Your love keeps lifting me higher".
It was amazing and they weren't playing at being musicians like many critics would have you believe
Plus there'd be no Axl Rose " snake hips " if it hadn't had been for Davy Jones.

How old is your brother?

He would have been 54 this year, sadly he passed away in a car accident 13 years ago.

Not sure. After leaving school he joined the forces and moved away for a few years. He came home but then went backpacking and travelled a lot. In between his travels, he played a bit of rugby in Baglan and enjoyed his beer, he’d often be down the Brook, in the Tyn, the Bay and down Town. Quite often on a Saturday he’d be out with Kevin Thomas from the Ferry. I am sure you’d know Kev, we used to call him Mental Kev. :D
