Just wondering lads, 'n lasses, if any 'statto on here,' can help clarify/offer evidence, to prove a debate amongst a few of my mates and myself.

Discussions centred on Morgan Whittaker's impressive 11 minute hat-trick v Plymouth last night, being the fastest in Swansea's history.

That of course, has since led on to the quite shocking statistic being made known, that it was the first hat-trick in a competitive match, by a Swans player, since Scott Sinclair's in the 2011 Championship Play-Off Final v Reading. That's 10 years and 86 days...Wow!?

My side of the Whittaker debate was, that I had seen a faster Swans hat-trick, scored I seem to remember in 5 minutes, by 'Sir' Alan Curtis v Crewe?, (or Bury?) in 1977/78???

The problem is, I can't seem to find any reference to this achievement online, and being a bit of an old git now, I'm doubting my memory's version of events.

I just wondered if anyone is able to shed some light on this?

From Alan Curtis Wiki page

"A disappointing start to the 1977–78 season cost Griffiths his job, and new appointment John Toshack managed to take the club to promotion, with Curtis claiming 34 goals in 46 games to become the division's top-scorer that season. On 12 November, Curtis scored a hat-trick during a home win over Crewe Alexandra.[15] He also claimed a hat-trick in an 8–0 victory over Hartlepool United."

Bob Latchford’s 3 against Leeds was less than 10 minutes . Ian Walsh’s treble again Sliema came in 11 minutes - and that was coming off the bench .

On another subject, the fastest sending off goes to Walter Boyd

I also remember the Ian Walsh hat-trick well.

My father and I and a large group of mates, used to sit in the Centre Stand just behind the away dug-out and we kindly, offered their bench/subs/manager etc quite a lot of quality advice on a whole range of subjects from where we sat...

When during the Sliema match, we were already leading 5-0 and Walshie was sent on to terrorise them for the rest of the match. As he was 'warming up' my dad shouted out to him, "Don't worry Ian, you've got enough time to get yourself a hat-trick yet boy!" And that's exactly what he did!

We were standing to applaud/cheer the team off at the end of the match, after crushing Sliema 12-0. Ian Walsh came over to where we were, laughed and waved at us, in acknowledging my father's prediction.

We went on to win the second leg 0-5, making it the second highest aggregate victory for a British team in European competition at that time.

I've still not got any proof of Alan Curtis' '5 Minute Hat-Trick' though...C'mon dig deep into the records boys!

Leon Knight scored a hat-trick inside the first 27 minutes on his debut against MK Dons, but pretty sure there has been quicker over the years.

Steve Thornber - 1992 - 10 minute hatrick against West Brom for the swans to win 3-2. Away game I think, 2 nil down and I think Thornber came on as sub. Old third devision. West Brom we’re third in the league at the time.

Just checked and Thornber came on at 76 mins. Scored his first 5 mins later.

Wasn’t there but remember the radio commentary.

Wasn't that after coming on as a substitute or summat.

I think he was sent off before play had even resumed after his substitution onto the pitch

Yes, getting ready for a free kick...red card.....red boots.

Curtis scored three in 5 minutes versus Crewe at the Vetch. As Max Boyce said, I know cos i was there ! We won 5-0

How long did it take Bradley Maylett?

I was there for the Walter sending off, he literally got subbed on and as he reached his position he gave a Rochdale player a quick dab. The referee must have been one of the only people in the ground to really see it properly. It literally was just seconds, not even sure if play had restarted.

Remember it well.
Last five minutes in front of one man and his dog ( lots had gone to catch their buses etc by then )
Funny, can't remember too much of what happened over the last few years, yet remember 44 years ago
