Can’t see it unfortunately. If we’re offered £10-15m for him and/or Vipotnik I think we’re likely to accept. Best case for me is that we get a very big offer for one of them and the other is happy to stay even if there is interest.

Agree with the second paragraph. Clearly Matos wants Fulton/Stamenic as the deeper midfielder and I’m not sure that what he’s asking Franco/Widdel/Yalcouye/Cullen (and Walta I guess) to do as the two 8s plays to his strengths.

Outstanding signing and I think we’ll make a big profit on him (probably this summer). I’ll be interested to see which PL teams would actually make an offer for him though? Wouldn’t be surprised if he went to a relegated club in the Championship.

Another good home win and always felt that we had another gear if needed. Great to see Vipotnik grab another 2. What a hit for the free kick! I thought the last 2 away games would give an idea of how much we’ve improved under Matos (a lot is the answer). The 4 games left in February will...

    Burnley 100 points...

9 out of 13 seasons in the PL for Burnley with 4 automatic promotions from the Championship mixed in - wouldn’t be surprised to see them top 2 again next season. Seem to be a bit stuck between being too good for one league and not good enough for the other atm, but there’s far worse places to...

    Burnley 100 points...

The PL seems to have gone back to a point where physicality and athleticism trump everything in terms of player profile. Leeds and Sunderland have recruited very well in terms of this. Not sure about Fulham being in any danger mind. Even if the points total is higher than usual this season...

All about recruitment once promoted these days. Sunderland obviously have a really good manager but they pretty much brought in a new 1st XI in the summer.

No arguments with that and I guess I was being picky in terms of my initial reply of ‘trying to get close to the cap’ You’ll see very few complaints from me in terms of the new owners and their plans on and off the pitch in the last 12 months.

Definitely played centre midfield for the 1st 12-18 months he was with us including the FA Cup game at home to Liverpool. Didn’t realise all 3 of them had started the 0-0 at the Vetch though. https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/Game/1718

I’m not sure I said it should be zero tbf. I just questioned whether being so close to the limit was good management as was stated. There’s a big difference between the two extremes of ‘we must break even’ and ‘we must spend every penny we’re allowed’ I’d suggest that good management in the...

The January 2026 Transfer Window Thread - Now Closed!

Depends what you want long term I guess. Maybe the football bubble will never burst and it won’t be an issue. However, the owners themselves have said the club needs to be more sustainable (albeit reliant on player sales). I just don’t see why they’d continue to cover that level of loss each...

The January 2026 Transfer Window Thread - Now Closed!

I’m not sure losing £13-14 million per season for 3 consecutive years can be seen as good management no matter how bonkers football finances are. Relying on owners with no real attachment to the club covering that for a prolonged period is risky at best IMO.

Strangely, as someone else mentioned I remember the friendly at the Vetch (although wouldn’t have remembered his name) as well! I guess it was unusual at the time as I’m sure there’s loads of UK based players that have played in the odd friendly that I’d never remember!

Agree with most of that. Gatland, Edwards and 5-10 World class players resulted in international success which is all 80-90% of the Welsh public are interested in. As a result most paid no attention to the lack of quality, depth and pathways in the regional game. Shame for those who genuinely...
