vdH was a great pro and an excellent player for us, he was one of the top defenders in the Championship if I recall directly for his distribution metrics and carries out of defense. We never really replaced him with a similar player until Darling and his distribution wasn't quite at vdH's level though Darling was a far greater threat in the opposition box.
