A release clause in on a new contract makes sense. You could see how Vipotnik would have signed.
That's normally the deal in this kind of situation. Gives the club an amount that they know they'll get and the player a guaranteed move if another club meets the clause.

If it’s true they were asking for 15 million in January, I can see the new clause being in and around 20 with the condition that he reaches 20 league goals (if that is how clauses can work). That would give us brilliant scope to get in some new attacking talent and maybe a defender or 2. Crazy that Vip may end up on 22 or 23 goals this season, he’d very likely be looking at 30 if he was playing for a Coventry or an Ipswich. For the value we’ll get he has to be one of our best signing in a while.

Makes sense and both parties are protected.

Can't argue with that, you wouldn't put it against him to hit 25 goals for the season across all competitions needing just 3 more goals in 5 games

And who would they be?
List must be long if it's most.
Most might be a stretch, but we are a fickle bunch on here. It's not crazy to think after watching Sheehan sides that he wasn't up to it. He was out there a half step behind the ball and getting one or two touches a game. In retrospect, that's down to poor management of the side and Vip is a phenomenal player, but I think the complaints were very much reasonable given that we can only judge by what we see on match day.

Maybe this means that we should all be more measured in our criticism of players, but half the appeal of being a supporter is trying to manage the side from behind a keyboard, so I don't think that's likely

Probably more the case rather than trying to belittle others and play the morale high ground.
Its the old saying regards fickle fans, always has been and will be the case and no one is immune to it for me.
People will make calls and give their opinions. Fans will get things right and wrong.

NIce post Jackathome, a very decent one indeed 👍
